Serving Youth

YRE: Youth Religious Education
For children who need sacramental preparation for First Communion, First Confession, or Confirmation. We are seeking adults to act as teachers or teachers' aides in teaching school children in the faith. You must be a confirmed Catholic and have experience teaching, skills with youth, or willingness to work in an assistant role as you gain experience. Classes for First Holy Communion meet on Sunday mornings, from 8:30-9:30 a.m. in the Siena room. Classes for Confirmation take place on alternating Sunday evenings after the 5:30 p.m. mass. Regular classes are held from September through May. For more information contact Carrie Huminski at 377-5699 or chuminski@hotmail.com or Juliette Martinez at juliette.martinez@heart.org.

Children's Liturgy of the Word
This ministry offers young children an opportunity to experience the Word in a way that engages them at their level. This ministry occurs during the Liturgy of the Word at the 9:30 a.m. Sunday Mass. Children ages 3-9 are dismissed after the Opening Prayer to read and discuss the Gospel in a way which is meaningful to them. Children then separate into different age groups and work on an art project or worksheet that supports the Gospel they have just read. Children return to Mass after the General Intercessions. Volunteers can assist the children with activities that allow them to really experience the liturgy. For more information or to volunteer contact Margaret McCracken at margaretpm@pacbell.net.

Youth Ministry
A new youth ministry program is currently being developed at St. Dominic's. Meetings for youth aged 12-17 are expected to begin in late February, 2008.

School Tutoring
Megan Furth Academy is a Catholic High School Preparatory built on the foundation of two great Catholic schools: Sacred Heart and St. Dominic. The Kindergarten-Fifth Grade site is located on Pine St. in the former St. Dominic's School. The school program offers a core academic program that teaches students how to think critically and solve problems, a championship sports program that integrates leadership and sportsmanship, a musical arts program that stimulates pride and creativity, and a service learning program that educates each child about connection between Christian values and service and action. The school needs adult tutors to work with students. For more information contact Nicole McCollough at 346-9500.
